Erm, catching up
23 08 08 - 19:06 Just a quick roundup of things that have happened lately.
We've been on term break for the last 2 weeks, so no kids in the boarding house, it's been really quiet. They will be back on Monday, so the chaos will begin again!
Here are the boys lining up at the end of last term with their buckets.
We've had "Nane Nane" a local holiday to remember farmers with a big agricultural show in town. Lots of market stalls selling everything from seed to tractors.
The Army were dong the marshaling of the crowd at the gate & we were mildly concerned that one of them was waving around the biggest pistol I've ever seen (looked like a flare gun) with his finger on the trigger. We were less worried when I noticed that it was missing it's hammer, so he couldn't have fired it if he'd wanted too! (probably makes a fair truncheon though!)
Samwell, the head of security at Usa had a birthday, he's masai so was very confused by the birthday party we threw him, apparently it's just not a custom for them!
The Land rover is broken already, front prop shaft universal joint exploded on me just as i was coming through Usa village the other day. I was so very glad that A) I had just bought spanners the day before and B) that's really easy to deal with, just unbolt it & throw it in the back! One mild inconvenience is that as it came apart it hit the sump plug which has been repaired with liquid metal in the past & is now leaking. New sump pan required as well as a new UJ. But she still got me home only 20 minutes later than planned, I love landrovers!!
Also I adjusted the brakes today & they are much less spongy now !
Tara, the volunteer/visitor coordinator has moved into a nice new flat in town, with amazing views over the city, we had a mini housewarming & she cooked something that approximated lasagna. Tasted good!!
Rob, the Uniform manager/ site maintenance manager has taken up a job offer in Mongolia teaching English. His wife Mary celebrated her birthday the week before.
I'm sure they are going to have an amazing time, although I imagine a 39 hour trip from Tanzania to Mongolia, where it can get to -40 degrees might be quite a change for Mary, seeing as she'd never left the country before! We all wish them the best of luck out there.
More to come soon! Testing for the 2009 pupil intake has started, but that's such a massive undertaking that I think it needs it's own post, maybe tomorrow.
Oh and it's my Mum's birthday today, haven't managed to get hold of her via skype yet, but if you're reading this, "Happy birthday"!!
